Adeleke’s Borehole-Sinking Spree, An Executive Form Of Mediocrity | GOVERNMEND

0

Government has different layers with both expected and constitutionally assigned tasks capable of improving the quality of life for the people. The borehole-seeking project of the executive governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke is a lazy man’s idea, lacks substance and fits well into the categorization of an executive mediocrity. The borehole sunk across 332 wards in Osun state by the executive governor is theatric, laughable and a degradation of State government’s capability.

We’ve witnessed many borehole projects, a short term elixir for water scarcity being executed by NGOs, philanthropists, community heads, traditional rulers, ward councillors, Local Government chairmen and legislators as a way to help improve the living condition of people, either as a social responsibility or as the function of the government but at the local level. But it is unusual to have it as a state government’s initiative. Borehole project should be left for the local government and private citizens, we should charge the government to focus more on state befitting projects that are outside the jurisdiction of a local government which includes increasing the state internal generated revenue, security across the state, economy, transportation, education and other core areas begging for exciting innovations through the fusion of science and technology.

The Osun State Governor, His Excellency, Ademola Adeleke has done more across the state for political correctness rather than what the people really deserve in terms of governance. While I hope he still has all the time it takes to live up to expectations, I like to appeal to the governor to be more critical in implementing policies and programmes, local activities or projects that are short term solution should be left for the Local Government or any structure within the state at that level. Osun state didn’t wrestle the Asiwaju-imposed-Oyetola just for her to have a governor that goes around priding himself not for commissioning a water dam not just for water but for hydro-electric or wooing investors into the state to enhance economy but for sinking borehole across the state.

The State of the Living Spring has many untapped potentials that should be the priority of the governor to unlock, for the good of the state. Osun state is unique and strategically positioned, borehole spree is a lazy job done by the governor, he should fasten his belt and catch up with the pace of fast developing states like Kaduna State, Ogun State and Oyo State. Don’t spend four years to mention borehole as part of achievements, it would not only be laughable, it would reduce the bar of the already reduced bar of what governance should be about.
