Nigerians React To Suspension Of Central Bank Governor, Call For Arrest Of Emefiele’s Cabals | GOVERNMEND
Nigerians on micro-blogging platform, Twitter, have reacted to the suspension of the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele by President Bola Tinubu on Friday.
The Twitter users in their various posts demanded prosecution of Emefiele, citing poor monetary policies and economic sabotages that characterised his tenure at the CBN.
SaharaReporters had reported that President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele, from office with immediate effect due to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
Emefiele’s suspension was confirmed by Willie Bassey, the Director, Information, for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms,” the release added.
Reacting to this, a Twitter user, Abraham Babarinde described Emefiele’s suspension as long overdue. He said, “The suspension is long overdue as we will not forget GE’s tenure in a lifetime.”
