Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Road Woes Reach New Heights

In a firsthand encounter with the trials of everyday commuters, Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed deep concern over the deplorable condition of the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta expressway. Akpabio found himself stuck in traffic for over two hours while en route to the 2023 Yewa Cultural Festival in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Addressing the crowd at the grand finale of the Yewa Cultural Festival in Ilaro, Akpabio, who was joined by 70 senators, emphasized the need to experience the road’s challenges. He insisted on driving to the event, making the arduous journey from Lagos to Ilaro, recognising the daily hardships faced by those who use the road.
Akpabio pledged the Senate’s support for the Ogun State Government in rehabilitating the road and addressing other dilapidated federal roads in the state.
He shared his experience, saying, “I spent about two hours in traffic along Papalanto-Ilaro road because two tankers fell on the road. I really sympathise with you. I went through what you people are going through on a daily basis.”
Furthermore, he assured the people of Yewaland that the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would prioritise their requests and work closely with Governor Dapo Abiodun to ensure road improvements.
Akpabio, who was honoured with the chieftaincy title of ‘Fiwagboye’ of Yewaland by the Yewa Traditional Council, took the opportunity to encourage local youths to stay away from drugs and fraudulent activities, promising them a brighter future when they choose a clean path.
Governor Abiodun also used the occasion to request the Senate’s assistance in transferring the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Road to the state, emphasizing its significance for socio-economic development.
He mentioned his administration’s ongoing discussions regarding the reconstruction of other critical roads in the state, expressing the hope that the Senate’s support would lead to progress.
