The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has uncovered 189 fake companies that were used to secure land allocations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Registrar General of the Commission, Hussaini Magaji, revealed this during a press briefing in Abuja.
The discovery was made in response to a request from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to verify the status of a non-existing company that had applied for land allocation.
Magaji further explained that the detection of the non-existent company led to a broader investigation, ultimately revealing the network of fake companies.
As a result, two suspects, including a lawyer, have been apprehended, and a cartel involving employees of the Abuja Geographical Information System (AGIS), lawyers, and CAC staff has been identified.
This development highlights efforts to tackle fraudulent practises and ensure transparency in land allocation processes within the FCT.
