The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Sokoto has upheld the election of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State, as the Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District.
The tribunal, led by Justice Denis Madi Echesi, dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Ibrahim Danbaba, challenging the victory of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate.
The tribunal ruled that the petitioner failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt and ordered the payment of two hundred thousand naira as costs to the respondents, Tambuwal and the PDP.
In response to the tribunal’s judgement, Chris Kelechi, Esq., a member of the legal team representing Senator Ibrahim Danbaba, stated that they would carefully review the judgement before deciding whether to appeal.
Suleiman Usman, SAN, the legal representative for Senator Aminu Tambuwal, expressed satisfaction with the tribunal’s judgement.
