The United Nations (UN) has praised the Niger State Government for its dedication to the green economy and commended Governor Mohammed Bago for hosting Nigeria’s first-ever green economy summit.

UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed emphasised the importance of transitioning from oil-driven economies to greener energy alternatives and urged Nigerian political leaders to take action.

During the green economy summit held in Minna, Niger State’s capital, the UN Deputy Secretary-General encouraged Nigeria to invest in the transition to clean energy from renewable sources.

This investment in the green economy would not only unlock economic potential but also create employment opportunities in Niger State and the country as a whole.

Amina Mohammed highlighted the global shift away from fossil fuels and the need to expand access to reliable, clean, and affordable energy while reducing reliance on oil.

She emphasised that leadership, commitment, and partnership are essential to addressing complex issues and achieving sustainable development goals. Investments in protecting the environment and adopting cleaner energy sources are critical for building a just, sustainable, and resilient world.

Niger State is well-positioned to lead in this transition and can be a trailblazer in investing in the green economy.

The UN’s commendation underscores the importance of taking proactive steps towards sustainability and clean energy to create a better future for all.
