A joint committee of the House of Representatives has extended an invitation to Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, commonly known as Naira Marley, regarding the royalties of the late Afrobeat singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The committee, comprising representatives from the Committees on Youth, Justice, and Legislative Compliance, sent a letter to Naira Marley and Mohbad’s legal team requesting their presence on October 31st.

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, passed away at the age of 27 on September 12 under unclear circumstances.

Naira Marley has faced accusations of bullying or ordering harassment against the late singer, but the police have identified other suspects in connection with the case.

Earlier this month, Naira Marley voluntarily turned himself in to the police for questioning and other investigative activities.

The House of Representatives decided to investigate the singer’s death following a motion put forth by Babajimi Benson, a representative from Lagos.

The Committee was tasked with ensuring that the late singer’s family receives all the royalties and benefits owed from his works.

In their letter of invitation, the lawmakers expressed their intent to ensure that the late singer’s family receives the royalties rightfully due to them.

The interaction with Naira Marley is intended to gain clarity on his interactions with relevant copyright organisations and assess the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s royalties and benefits.

This legislative action aims to protect the rights of artists and their families and ensure that they receive fair compensation for their creative works.
