Pan-Ijaw Organization Issues Warning Over Alleged Plot to Impeach Rivers State Governor

The Ijaw Nation Development Group (INDG), a pan-Ijaw organisation, has issued a warning to political actors involved in alleged impeachment efforts against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The group expressed concerns that such political actions could instigate a crisis and jeopardise security and development in the state.

This comes following reports of an arson attack and the destruction of public assets at the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.

According to the INDG, the people of the Niger Delta region are alarmed that Governor Fubara, who has been in office for only five months, is the target of a political coup.

The group called on stakeholders, including Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to exercise restraint and resolve any existing disagreements without plunging the state into chaos.

The INDG emphasised that Rivers State, which was an example of a successful democracy with significant infrastructure development under former Governor Wike, should not be marred by violent clashes driven by ego and greed.

The group called for a peaceful resolution of issues and urged stakeholders to support Governor Fubara against anti-democratic forces.

Furthermore, the INDG called on the Rivers State House of Assembly’s Speaker and leadership to reconsider their decision to suspend the Majority Leader and issue a notice of impeachment against Governor Fubara.

They warned that the Ijaw nation was closely monitoring developments in Rivers and would not hesitate to protect the governor’s mandate, as he is an Ijaw representative.
