Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider signing an executive order related to ‘unexplained wealth’ as a measure to combat corruption and the unexplained accumulation of wealth among politicians and civil servants.

He made this call during an interview on Channels Television.

Ndume referred to laws in the UK and other countries that address unexplained wealth and mentioned that he had attempted to introduce bills related to this issue in Nigeria.

He stated that the best way to address this problem would be for the executive branch to propose a bill or for the current president to sign an executive order dealing with unexplained wealth.

The senator emphasised the need for such legislation, particularly regarding politicians and civil servants who own properties and assets that far exceed their known sources of income.

He called on the public to hold politicians accountable for their actions and urged greater transparency in addressing this issue.

Ndume’s remarks highlight the ongoing challenges related to corruption and unexplained wealth in Nigeria and the need for effective measures to combat these issues.
