The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has identified poor planning and bad leadership as the root causes of Nigeria’s current challenges.

Speaking at a colloquium and Hall of Fame event organised to honour the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, Obi stressed the need to prevent embezzlement of public funds and ensure that these resources are used for the betterment of the country.

Obi emphasised that Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources, both natural and human and that the country’s problems stem from a lack of effective planning and leadership.

He pointed out that corruption, mismanagement of public funds, and a lack of accountability have hindered the nation’s progress.

According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is not inherent but rather the result of inadequate governance.

He called for a collective effort to prevent the misappropriation of public funds and work towards a better future for the country.

The guest speaker at the event, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, highlighted the impact of ethnic, religious, and political factors on Nigeria’s quest for a new political order, national development, and democratic rule.

He praised Julius Abure for his leadership in transforming the Labour Party and achieving remarkable success.

Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, stressed the importance of selecting the right governor in the upcoming Edo governorship election in September 2023.

He emphasised the need for a governor who can unite different groups and efficiently manage the state’s resources to drive development.

The Chancellor of Mudiame University, Prof. S.E. Eromosele, also highlighted the pressing issues of poverty, hardship, and underdevelopment in Edo State and called for a government focused on people-oriented policies.

He stressed the importance of citizen involvement in the policy-making process.

The event served as a platform for addressing critical issues in Nigerian governance and promoting better leadership and accountability to address the challenges facing the nation.
