Niger State Allocates N20 Billion in 2024 Budget to Launch the State’s University of Education

The Niger State government has allocated a budget of N20 billion for the establishment of the Niger State University of Education in its 2024 budget.
The governor of Niger State, Alhaji Umaru Bago, made this announcement during the inauguration of a committee tasked with overseeing the university’s establishment.
The university will operate alongside the existing Niger State College of Education in Minna.
Governor Bago urged the committee to work efficiently and avoid bureaucratic delays in carrying out their responsibilities.
The committee’s terms of reference include developing a transition program for the full establishment of the university, determining the financial and infrastructural requirements in compliance with the university laws and regulations of the National Universities Commission (NUC), and formulating project development plans that may involve community and private sector participation.
The committee will also assess the manpower needs of the university and address any gaps in the master plan of the State College of Education.
It is essential to ensure a smooth transition and collaboration between the two institutions.
Governor Bago emphasised his administration’s commitment to making Niger State an educational hub.
Plans are also in progress for the establishment of other specialised universities, including the University of Agriculture in Mokwa, the University of Energy and Renewable Energy in Shiroro, and the University of Medicine in Suleja.
The establishment of the Niger State University of Education reflects the government’s dedication to expanding educational opportunities and enhancing the quality of higher education in the state.
