The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has arrested 15 individuals suspected of vandalism, scavenging, and other criminal activities targeting critical infrastructure within the FCT.

The suspects were apprehended in various parts of the territory during nighttime operations.

The crimes ranged from vandalism of public property to theft, bag and phone snatching, and attacks on innocent citizens under the guise of scavenging.

Items recovered from the suspects included burglary irons, a vehicle used for conveying stolen items, vandalised transmission cables, tools, jewellery, bags, a cart, and a pumping machine.

The FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, stated that the apprehended suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law to make them accountable for their actions and serve as a deterrent to others.

He emphasised that vandalism not only constitutes a crime but also hinders the effective functioning of critical infrastructure and poses risks to public safety and essential services.

The NSCDC’s efforts also aim to enforce the ban on scavenging activities within the city centre, where major national assets and infrastructure are installed.

The Commandant expressed the organization’s determination to enforce this ban and protect public infrastructure in the FCT, taking robust measures to address vandalism in the region.
