INEC Stands Firm on Imo REC’s Integrity, Rejects Calls for Removal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected calls for the removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Imo State, Prof Sylvia Agu, stating that there is no evidence to support such a move.

INEC emphasized that complaints against Agu are based on suspicion and lack concrete evidence.

The Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, asserted that the REC will conduct the election and the commission takes allegations seriously but requires credible evidence for any disciplinary action.

INEC assured political parties that the election in Imo State will be fair, unbiased, and conducted with integrity.

The electoral body has deployed additional resources, including 27 Resident Electoral Commissioners, to ensure the smooth conduct of elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states on November 11, 2023.
