The Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing, and Forwarding Agencies (SSASCFA) is gearing up for a nationwide strike set to kick off on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
The decision to embark on this indefinite strike was not taken lightly.
It stems from the resolution reached during the Joint National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
This move was triggered by the reported assault on the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, a situation described as “beastly and gruesome.”
In a statement issued by the President General of SSASCFA, Comrade Harrison Ugochukwu Asonye, the union is aligning with the directive from TUC to withdraw its services.
Asonye emphasised the union’s commitment to taking responsible steps to minimize adverse effects on customers, partners, and overall business operations within the maritime industry.
The SSASCFA assures everyone that they will be kept updated on developments related to the strike action, including any potential changes to the start date or duration.
While the strike is undoubtedly a significant move to address the issues raised by NLC and TUC, there’s hope for an amicable resolution. The SSASCFA is expressing its dedication to working collaboratively to ensure the continued success and stability of the maritime industry.
