The Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld the decision of the tribunal, confirming the election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Governor and Obafemi Hamzat as Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
The appeal was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was unanimously dismissed by the justices of the Court of Appeal for lacking merit.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Sanwo-Olu the winner of the Lagos governorship election in March.
Sanwo-Olu secured 762,134 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who garnered 312,329 votes.
The PDP candidate, Abdulazeez Adediran, came in third with 62,449 votes.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, the LP and PDP candidates took their case to the Lagos State Election Petitions Tribunal, seeking to nullify Sanwo-Olu’s victory. However, the tribunal dismissed their suit on September 25.
In response, Jandor, a candidate from the Labour Party, filed an appeal on October 13, challenging the tribunal’s judgment.
The Court of Appeal, after considering the appeal, upheld the decision of the tribunal and dismissed the suit for lacking merit.
