Legal challenges have emerged over the appointment of Ola Olukoyede as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria.

Victor Opatola, an Abuja-based legal practitioner, has filed a lawsuit against the federal government and the National Assembly, specifically contesting the validity of Olukoyede’s appointment.

In the suit filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, Opatola is seeking leave of the court for substituted service on the defendants.

He questions whether Olukoyede, who has not fulfilled the conditions of the EFCC Act 2004, can be validly appointed as the EFCC chairman.

The court proceedings are scheduled for November 22. Opatola also seeks a declaration that Olukoyede’s appointment is illegal and void, along with an injunction against the National Assembly’s confirmation of his appointment.
