Muritala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the Kogi State governorship election, along with hundreds of his supporters, staged a protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja.
This protest was in response to INEC declaring the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Usman Ododo, as the winner of the election.
The SDP candidate and his supporters expressed their dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the election.
During the protest, Ajaka and his supporters demanded the resignation of INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, or the declaration of Ajaka as the winner through the seven-day window provided for scrutiny.
They alleged that the election was marred by rigging and overvoting, particularly in Kogi Central, where results were allegedly written instead of cancellations.
Ajaka had earlier stated that it would be a waste of time to challenge the election outcome in court, expressing doubts about the transparency of the judicial process.
He warned that if the election irregularities were allowed to stand, it could lead to anarchy in the country, as people might resort to violence in future elections.
The protest at the INEC headquarters was part of the broader reaction to the governorship election results in Kogi State, reflecting the tensions and controversies surrounding the electoral process.
