Federal Government Committee Inaugurated to Boost Salt and Kaolin Production

The Federal Government of Nigeria has established a 10-man committee to enhance the mechanism for the full-scale and industrial production of salt and kaolin in the country.
Dr. Mary Ogbe, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, inaugurated the committee and emphasised that this initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The goal is to explore and exploit salt and kaolin resources domestically, providing jobs for Nigerians, conserving foreign exchange, and boosting the economy.
The committee, led by Prof. Zachaeus Opafunsho, will determine the extent and locations of salt and kaolin deposits in Nigeria, assess the viability of licenses issued for exploration and exploitation, ascertain the cost of exploration, and propose a way forward for establishing salt and kaolin processing plants in the country.
The committee has until November 30, 2023, to submit its report.
