Federal Government Partners with UNDP and Germany for Comprehensive Police Reform

The Federal Government of Nigeria has entered into a formal partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the German Government to initiate a comprehensive police reform.
The agreement was solidified during a meeting between the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, the UNDP Resident Representative, Mohamed Yahya, and the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Gunther.
The collaboration is expected to support the efforts of the Special Committee on Police Reform, which was established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last National Police Council meeting.
The NSA emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to leading a comprehensive police reform process centered on trust, human rights, the rule of law, and efficient public service.
Nuhu Ribadu expressed gratitude for UNDP’s ongoing support in modernizing police training and its extensive assistance in police reform initiatives in Nigeria.
He also conveyed appreciation to the German Ambassador for Germany’s financial and technical support for police reform in Nigeria.
The partnership aims to build on UNDP’s existing support for the Police Reform Initiative in Nigeria and contribute to the country’s long-term efforts in developing a professional police service.
The German Ambassador commended Nigeria’s decision to reform its police and assured the NSA of Germany’s commitment to the initiative.
The UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria expressed readiness to collaborate with the country in implementing the Federal Government’s police reform program.
This partnership underscores the collective efforts to enhance the efficiency, professionalism, and adherence to human rights in the Nigerian police force.
