Northwest Governors Seek AfDB Support for Agro-Industrial Development and Security

Governors from the North West geopolitical zone have appealed to the African Development Bank (AfDB) to include their states in the next phase of its Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) program.
During a meeting with AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, the governors discussed agriculture, security, and development issues in the region.
The Northwest states, including Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kano, and Kaduna, seek assistance from the AfDB to stimulate agricultural growth and address security challenges affecting overall prosperity.
The SAPZ initiative aims to process raw commodities locally, but the Northwest region missed out in the first 2021 phase.
The governors believe that incorporating the zone now would lead to unprecedented agricultural expansion, significantly transforming the economy.
They highlighted the region’s major potential and requested support for security, human capital development, and agriculture.
The AfDB expressed interest in supporting Nigeria’s North-west region, with the bank’s president commending the governors for prioritizing the well-being of their people.
