The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has inaugurated a new unit called the VIPs Protection Unit.

This unit is tasked with protecting individuals who face threats due to their status.

The first batch of 501 personnel, trained to carry out these responsibilities, recently passed out in a ceremony at the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.

The Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, highlighted that VIPs’ guard and protection have always been part of the NSCDC’s mandate.

He emphasised the importance of the new unit in addressing security concerns for individuals exposed to potential threats.

During the Passing Out Parade, the Commandant General, represented by the Assistant Commandant General in charge of Agro Rangers, Austine Obiekwe, urged the personnel to be good ambassadors of the Corps in their assignments.

He emphasised that any personnel engaged in activities that could tarnish the image of the Corps would face consequences.

David Abi, the Assistant Commandant General in charge of training and manpower development, explained that the training for members of the VIPs Protection Unit lasted for a week.

The personnel, selected from the arms squad unit of commands across the country, underwent drilling in special proficiency for bodyguard and VIP protection.

The establishment of the VIPs Protection Unit reflects a strategic move by the NSCDC to enhance its capabilities and address specific security needs for individuals holding prominent positions.
