Obi Urges for Urgent Overhaul of TETFUND for Improved Tertiary Education Funding

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last general elections, Peter Obi, has called for an immediate revamp of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
He expressed satisfaction with the Nigerian government’s decision to suspend the automatic deduction of 40% from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of universities.
Obi stressed the need to reorganize and revamp TETFUND, pointing out that the current state of the fund indicates a lack of attention to its proper utilization for funding tertiary education.
He urged the government to focus on the financial autonomy of public universities while fulfilling its statutory financial responsibility to the education sector.
