Special Counsel Urges British Prime Minister to Intervene in Nnamdi Kanu’s Case

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has urged the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, to intervene in Kanu’s case.

Ejimakor emphasised that Kanu holds a British passport, making it the UK’s responsibility to secure his release.

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Kanu’s lawyer pointed out that, under international law, the relationship between Kenya and the UK is crucial in this matter since Kanu was captured in Kenya.

He highlighted that Nigeria was not a party to this relationship, and therefore, the UK doesn’t require a court order to retrieve its citizen from Nigeria.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021 when he was captured and brought to Nigeria.

Despite winning legal battles for his release, Kanu remains in detention as he awaits a Supreme Court judgment scheduled for December 15.

Ejimakor’s appeal to the British Prime Minister underscores the complex international dimensions of Kanu’s case and seeks diplomatic intervention to address the situation.
