Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-cultural and political organization, has once again emphasised its advocacy for a restructured Nigeria, asserting the need to return to the true federalism of the pre-1966 era.

The group, in a nine-point communique issued after a meeting at the residence of former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel, highlighted the importance of restructuring, stating that it would enable each region to develop autonomously at its own pace.

Expressing support for President Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambition, Afenifere commended Tinubu’s past efforts toward the restructuring of the country.

The organization urged Tinubu, now in a leadership position, to actively work towards realizing the goal of restructuring for the benefit of the nation.

The communique further affirmed Chief Reuben Fasoranti as the leader of Afenifere and the national leader of the Yoruba people, with Ayo Adebanjo serving as the acting leader.

Afenifere pledged to monitor economic and social developments in the Southwest geopolitical zone, focusing on issues such as the indiscriminate sale of land to non-indigenes.

Key points from the communique included the commitment to the unity and development of Yorubaland, appreciation for all leaders, living and deceased, for their contributions to the region, and the call for the protection and promotion of the Yoruba language, culture, and traditions.

Afenifere also expressed its dedication to upholding the principles of its founding fathers, particularly the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Additionally, the organization emphasized the need for engagement with local leaders to address challenges such as the indiscriminate sale of land and pledged to work on reinvigorating the speaking of the Yoruba language among young children.

Afenifere also committed to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the security of the Yoruba people, particularly in areas facing challenges from suspected Fulani herdsmen.
