Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State reportedly spent over N6 billion in just three months to run the “Office of the Governor,” according to a budget performance report for the 3rd Quarter of 2023.

The report, available on the Osun State website, details the income and expenditure statements for the period from July to September 2023.

The budget performance report provides insights into the financial activities of the state during the specified quarter.

It mentions that a revised budget was approved on August 15, 2023, allowing the state government to carry out activities that positively impact the state’s economy.

The report covers the approved budget appropriation, the revised budget against organisational units, actual expenditures for the quarter, cumulative expenditures for the year to date, and balances against revenue and expenditure appropriations.

According to the document, Governor Adeleke’s office alone incurred expenses amounting to a staggering N6,011,614,620.35 within the three-month period.

This amount is distinct from the N209 million reported to have been spent on personal expenditure in the governor’s office.

Additionally, the Osun State House of Assembly expended over N800 million during the same period.

The budget performance report reveals that the Osun government allocated over N2 billion for refreshments, meals, and welfare packages for officials.

Specifically, N1,759,466,120.21 was spent on welfare packages, while N456,401,074.13 was utilised for refreshments and meals.

Another N400 million was reportedly earmarked for publicity and advertisements.

The detailed breakdown of expenditures raises questions and has drawn attention to the financial management and priorities of the Osun State government.

Critics and observers have expressed concerns about the significant sums allocated for various categories of expenses, especially given the economic challenges faced by citizens.

The report highlights the need for transparency and accountability in government spending, with citizens and stakeholders expecting clear justifications for the allocation of funds in different areas.

As the information becomes public, it adds to the ongoing discussions about fiscal responsibility and prudent financial management in Nigerian states.

The Osun State government may face increased scrutiny and calls for accountability as citizens seek clarity on the utilisation of public funds and the rationale behind such substantial expenditures.
