In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, asserted that incumbent President Bola Tinubu exhibits a more hands-on approach in governance compared to former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Ndume, Buhari played a lesser supervisory role, allowing some individuals with questionable intentions to thrive in his administration.
Ndume, who also serves as the Senate Chief Whip and is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized that President Tinubu is actively in charge, taking direct responsibility for the tasks at hand.
He suggested that Buhari, on the other hand, made a mistake by not closely overseeing his government, leading to the admission that there were elements with less-than-honorable intentions within his administration.
During the interview, Ndume defended the controversial rendition of President Tinubu’s campaign tune at the National Assembly during the presentation of the 2024 budget.
Despite criticism, Ndume argued that there was nothing amiss with the action, comparing it to the era when lawmakers chanted ‘Sai Baba’ in support of President Buhari.
Ndume acknowledged that the current President’s active involvement in governance has contributed to a more efficient leadership style.
He stated, “The President here is in charge. He takes charge, unlike our former President. That President will just give you an assignment; he will not look over you.”
Ndume indicated that Tinubu’s approach demonstrates a commitment to effective leadership, ensuring that those entrusted with responsibilities are closely monitored.
Addressing the controversy surrounding the rendition of Tinubu’s campaign song in the National Assembly, Ndume dismissed it as a non-issue.
He argued that similar displays of support were evident during Buhari’s presidency when lawmakers chanted ‘Sai Baba.’ According to Ndume, such actions are common and should not be blown out of proportion.
