Osogbo Bank Customers Frustrated as ATMs Fail to Dispense Cash Over the Weekend

Customers in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, were left dissatisfied over the weekend as Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in several commercial banks failed to dispense cash.
The situation, reminiscent of challenges faced in the first quarter of 2023, caused inconvenience for many customers relying on ATMs for their financial transactions.
Daily Post’s investigation revealed that numerous ATMs across different banks in Osogbo were non-functional, leaving customers without access to cash.
The issue persisted from Saturday through Sunday, with bank branches observed to be empty during this period.
Dele Ajayi, one of the affected customers, shared his frustration, particularly when faced with an emergency.
He expressed disappointment that despite having an ATM card, he was unable to withdraw cash due to the non-dispensing ATMs.
Ajayi questioned the need to carry an ATM card if it couldn’t be used when required.
The problem extended to various banks located at strategic points such as Gbongan-Ibadan road, Oke-Fia, Station Road, and Igbona axis in Osogbo.
David Olayinka, another customer, recounted resorting to Point Of Sale (POS) agents to meet his cash needs, despite incurring charges of N150 for each N5000 withdrawal.
Posing a challenge to the business community, some POS agents voiced their concerns over the reduction in daily withdrawal limits imposed by commercial banks.
Many banks reportedly slashed their daily withdrawal limits, causing frustration among customers and affecting the usual boom in business during the festive season.
Adedayo Azeez, a POS agent, questioned the rationale behind the reduced withdrawal limits, citing claims by banks that the Central Bank of Nigeria is mopping up cash.
This cash crunch during the yuletide season adds another layer of inconvenience for both customers and businesses relying on smooth financial transactions.
