This announcement comes as part of the Lagos State administration’s commitment to the “Traffic Management and Transportation” pillar of the THEMES+ developmental agenda.

The Governor, accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and other key stakeholders, conducted an inspection tour of the ongoing construction of the Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge.

The project, conceived over a year ago, is currently at approximately 65 percent completion. Sanwo-Olu expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the contractor and highlighted the significance of the bridge in addressing major traffic challenges in the region.

The Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge is expected to provide alternative routes for motorists commuting from Toyin, Allen, Opebi to access Ojota, as well as those traveling from Maryland to connect Ikeja and its environs.

The project aims to decongest traffic on key routes, including Kudirat Abiola Way and Mobolaji Bank Anthony.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the bridge’s design includes additional infrastructure for pedestrians, such as walkways and bicycle lanes, along with parking spaces for temporary vehicle breakdowns.

The completion of the bridge is anticipated to ease traffic congestion, contribute to economic development, and offer an alternative route for citizens.

The Governor hinted at an upcoming tour of the ongoing Regional Road project in Lekki.

He praised the efforts of the construction contractor, Messrs Julius Berger, and reiterated the commitment to completing the project by the second or third quarter of 2024.

The completion will mark a significant milestone in transforming traffic management and commuting in Lagos.

In response to the progress, Hon. Adedamola Kasunmu, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikeja II Constituency, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for addressing the plights of residents in the Ikeja axis.

He expressed the happiness of Ikeja residents with the bridge project, anticipating its positive impact on traffic problems and the overall well-being of the community.
