Revamping the National Youth Service Corps: Minister Unveils Plans for Economic Contribution
The Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has revealed ongoing plans to redefine the scope of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to actively contribute to the growth of the national economy.
Mr. Olawande shared this insight during an interactive session with the 2023 Batch C Stream 2 corps members at the NYSC Orientation camp in Paiko Local Government Area of Niger state.
During his visit, Mr. Olawande expressed his commitment to altering the perception of the NYSC by harnessing the potential of youth in driving economic development.
As a youth leading the ministry, he pledged to reshape the narrative surrounding the Corps. Advising the corps members, he urged them to familiarize themselves with the governance structures in their respective communities.
“This is our time to think. The President has provided us with the platform, and it is now up to us to make the most of it. As youths, we should actively participate and transform the narrative. Corps members should engage seriously with the skills acquisition programmes to acquire skills that will enhance their lives,” remarked Mr. Olawande.
He reassured the corps members of the Federal Government’s commitment to creating opportunities for youth engagement nationwide.
