Mr. Isaac Okpe, the General Manager of TCN, Benin region, shared details of the initiatives during a press briefing in Benin after a comprehensive tour of the region, sub-region, and Ihovbor work centre.
The focus of the projects is to enhance electricity transmission in Edo, Delta, and parts of Ondo and Ekiti states. Mr. Okpe emphasized the significance of the Benin sub-region, describing it as a vital hub of the national grid.
Some of the ongoing expansion projects include:

Additionally, Mr. Okpe highlighted the challenges faced by TCN in the region, including encroachments on TCN lines and acts of vandalism.
Encroachment involves the unauthorized construction of buildings, churches, and shops under the transmission lines, posing risks to lives. Vandalism, where individuals intentionally damage the lines, is another major concern.
Mr. Okpe stressed the importance of addressing these challenges to ensure the safety and reliability of the power infrastructure.
He noted that efforts are being made to prosecute individuals caught in the act of vandalism, emphasizing the need for public awareness and cooperation.
