National Human Rights Commission Advocates Comprehensive Training on Human Rights for Nigerian Army

Dr Anthony Ojukwu, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has urged the Nigerian Army to integrate human rights education into its training and operations.

The call was made during a forum on civil-military human rights in Abuja, organized by the NHRC as part of its human rights week.

Addressing the forum, Dr Ojukwu emphasized that respect for human rights is not contrary to military objectives but is fundamental to achieving lasting peace and security.

He stressed the need for prompt, impartial, and transparent investigations into allegations of human rights abuses, asserting that accountability and adherence to the rule of law are essential.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the armed forces, Dr Ojukwu highlighted the pivotal role of the military in a democratic society.
