The Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum, based in Kaduna, has issued a fervent plea for justice in the aftermath of the Tudun Bari drone attacks that occurred on Sunday.
Speaking at a press briefing, Mr Nafi’iu Abubakar, the forum’s spokesperson, expressed deep concern about the incident, highlighting the gravity it places on the Nigerian Army.
Abubakar lamented the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the attack, emphasizing that the victims were innocent Nigerians peacefully celebrating the Maulud.
The forum, representing the legal fraternity in northern Nigeria, decried the Nigerian Army’s assertion that the tragic incident resulted from an error or mistake, considering it deeply troubling.
“We firmly believe that such occurrences should never have happened, especially during a time of joyful celebration and unity. It is unacceptable and goes against the principles of justice and respect for human rights,” stated Abubakar.
The forum announced its intention to take legal action against the Federal Government, seeking adequate compensation for the victims and their families who suffered irreparable losses due to the unfortunate incident.
Abubakar urged the government to conduct an immediate and thorough independent investigation into the incident and called for accountability.
He underscored the importance of the Nigerian Army reassessing its rules of engagement and training procedures to prevent the loss of innocent lives during military operations.
The forum, standing in solidarity with the affected families, extended condolences and pledged unwavering support in their quest for justice.
