Major Leadership Overhaul in Nigerian Aviation Sector

A seismic shift has occurred in Nigeria’s aviation landscape as President Bola Tinubu sanctioned the suspension, removal, and replacement of Chief Executive Officers within the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
At the forefront of this transformation is the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), where the former Managing Director, Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed, has been ousted from his role.
Stepping into his shoes is Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku, who assumes the position of substantive Managing Director, bringing with her a wealth of experience.
Simultaneously, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) underwent a change in leadership, with the exit of Mr. Tayib Adetunji Odunowo.
Engr. Umar Ahmed Farouk now takes the reins as the new Managing Director, promising a fresh perspective and innovative approach to air traffic management.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) saw the departure of Engr. Akinola Olateru, replaced by Mr. Alex Badeh Jr. as the substantive Director-General.
This move underscores a commitment to enhancing safety measures and investigative protocols in the aviation sector.
In a parallel development, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) bid farewell to Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, with Prof. Charles Anosike stepping into the role of substantive Director-General.
This transition aims to fortify NiMET’s capabilities in providing accurate and timely weather information crucial for safe air travel.
Further contributing to the wave of changes is the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), where Capt. Alkali Mahmud Modibbo relinquished his position as Rector.
The baton has been passed to Mr. Joseph Shaka Imalighwe, who assumes the role of Acting Rector, with expectations of upholding the institution’s standards until a substantive appointment is made.
