Air Peace Refutes Allegations of Exploitative Airfares Amid Yuletide Season

Amidst accusations of exorbitant airfares targeting South-Eastern travelers during the festive season, Air Peace, a major Nigerian airline, has issued a statement debunking the claims. Reports of high airfares have circulated on social media, prompting criticisms and accusations of exploitation against the airline.
In a press release on Monday, Air Peace dismissed the allegations as misrepresentation and deliberate falsehood aimed at generating ethnic sentiments. The airline clarified that the fare system is automated and operates uniquely, adjusting prices based on factors such as seat availability and market demand. It emphasized that the fare increase was not specific to the South-East but impacted routes experiencing heightened demand.
The statement countered the assertion that Air Peace discriminates against the South-East, asserting that the airline does not engage in ethnic favoritism. It highlighted the efforts made by the airline to accommodate increased passenger traffic to the Eastern region during the festive season, even though a significant portion of the flights would return with empty seats in the initial phase.
Air Peace expressed dismay at what it termed a “shameful act” of attempting to portray the airline negatively, emphasizing its commitment to responsible, fair, and healthy business practices since its inception. The airline questioned the basis of the accusations, noting that its ticket fares to the East remained competitive compared to other carriers serving the same region.
The airline urged the public to consider the facts and avoid succumbing to orchestrated efforts to tarnish its reputation. It concluded by reiterating its dedication to providing seamless connectivity across cities and contributing to the improvement of air travel in Nigeria.
