The Management of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has announced its ambitious revenue target of over N5 billion for the year 2024.

During a two-day workshop in Abuja, the Acting Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of CRFFN, Mrs Chinyere Uromta, outlined the council’s revenue generation plan for the coming year. The workshop, themed “Signed Performance Bond 2024 to 2027,” aimed to enhance staff performance and align the council’s operations with its revenue goals.

Mrs Uromta explained that the council’s revenue collection focuses on three main areas: the Land border, the Cargo Airport, and the Seaport. However, currently, revenue is only being collected at the seaport, with field officers monitoring the collections. Additionally, the council generates revenue from its training center, which is dedicated to training, enforcement, and regulation activities.

Emphasizing the importance of well-trained enforcement officers in revenue collection, Mrs Uromta highlighted the council’s commitment to improving staff performance. She stated that staff promotions would be based on merit, with each employee required to fulfill their responsibilities before being considered for promotion.

To ensure staff accountability and performance, Mrs Uromta revealed that department heads had been tasked with monitoring the performance of their respective units. The council has also implemented measures to discourage absenteeism, such as requiring staff to complete their tasks before requesting leave.

Dr. Ben Ojumah, the Head Research Development of the CRFFN, expressed optimism about the impact of the training on staff performance. He emphasized that the training would enable staff to contribute effectively to the council’s objectives.

Addressing concerns about the council’s ability to achieve its mandate with its current staff strength, Dr. Ojumah reassured that CRFFN has sufficient personnel to fulfill its responsibilities.

The workshop was facilitated by Mr Folarin Akinsoni, a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, who provided training on job-specific tasks. Akinsoni noted that the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, had already signed the bond with heads of agencies under the ministry, demonstrating the commitment to the council’s goals.
