Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has announced three days of mourning following the passing of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the late Governor of Ondo State, who died on Wednesday. Akeredolu was serving as the Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum and the South West Governors Forum at the time of his death.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji declared the three-day state mourning on Friday. As a mark of respect, all flags at public buildings across Ekiti State will be flown at half-mast during this period.

Additionally, Governor Oyebanji, who had previously expressed his condolences to the government and people of Ondo State, visited the family of the late Akeredolu at their residence in Ibadan to pay his respects.

It is noteworthy that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State had earlier declared a three-day mourning period in his state to honour the late Akeredolu. This announcement followed a similar declaration by Ondo State, which was the first to initiate the three-day mourning period in remembrance of Akeredolu.

Rotimi Akeredolu passed away at the age of 67 in Germany, where he had traveled for medical treatment related to prostate cancer.
