Federal Agencies and Ministries Set to Spend N85 Billion on Vehicles in 2024 Budget Proposal

An estimated sum of N85 billion has been earmarked for vehicle purchases by 12 federal government agencies and 13 ministries in the 2024 budget proposal. This amount surpasses the combined budgets of Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi (N37.6 billion), University College Hospital, Ibadan (N27.2 billion), and Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ife (N19.9 billion).
According to Daily Trust, the Ministry of Education is set to allocate N17.7 billion for vehicles, while the Ministry of Defence plans to spend N9.04 billion. The Presidency has allocated N8.04 billion for vehicle purchases, followed by the Ministry of Health with N7.4 billion. The Ministry of Police Affairs and the Ministry of Interior have allocated N4.95 billion and N4.50 billion, respectively, for the same purpose.
Other significant allocations include N4.43 billion by the Ministry of Justice, N3.71 billion by the Ministry of Works, N2.56 billion by the National Security Adviser, and N1.94 billion by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Education headquarters has earmarked N6.92 billion, the State House HQ N6.35 billion, Police Formations & Com N4.11 billion, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) N3.63 billion, and the Ministry of Works headquarters N3.62 billion. The Nigerian Army, Nigerian Immigration, Directorate of State Security, and Nigerian Railway Corporation have allocated N3.18 billion, N2.23 billion, N1.94 billion, and N1.78 billion, respectively, for vehicle purchases.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health HQ has proposed N1.74 billion, the Ministry of Housing HQ N1.66 billion, the Nigerian Airforce N1.50 billion, the National Rural Electrification Agency N1.50 billion, the Ministry of Solid Minerals N1.41 billion, and the Nigerian Navy N1.35 billion for the same purpose.
