The Zamfara State Government has taken decisive action to combat banditry by closing down eleven cattle markets across the state until further notice. The announcement was made by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Munnir Haidara, in a statement released on Thursday in Gusau.

According to the commissioner, the decision to close these markets was based on security reports indicating that bandits were utilizing them to sell their stolen cattle. The affected markets include Tsafe and Bilbis markets in Tsafe Local Government Area, Jangebe market in Talata-Mafara LGA, and Wuya market in Anka area. Additionally, Magazine Diddi market in Maradun LGA, Galadi market in Shinkafi LGA, Mada market in Gusau LGA, and Sabon Birnin Danali in Birnin Magaji LGA are also affected. The remaining closed markets are Kokiya, Chigama, and Nasarawar Godel markets, all in Birnin Magaji LGA.

Mr. Haidara emphasized the necessity of the closures, citing concerns that bandits were collaborating with unscrupulous individuals to sell their stolen livestock in these markets. He further stated that the state government had instructed security forces to ensure strict compliance with the closure order and to apprehend anyone found violating it.

The commissioner urged the people of Zamfara State to cooperate with the government in its efforts to eliminate banditry from the state by adhering to the closure of these markets.
