Mercy Corps Extends Gratitude to Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Gaza Evacuation

The international non-governmental organization (NGO) Mercy Corps has expressed its appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its role in facilitating the safe and swift departure of a Nigerian citizen from the conflict-ridden Gaza region.
Alkasim Abdulkadir, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yussuf Tuggar, revealed this development in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Abdulkadir, Tjada D’oyen McKenna, the CEO of Mercy Corps, conveyed the organization’s gratitude in a letter to Mr. Tuggar. The letter specifically commended the Minister for his prompt and professional response to their appeal for assistance in ensuring the safe passage of their team member, Mr. Joel Onyeke, out of Gaza.
Onyeke, a senior member of Mercy Corps serving as a cash advisor, was the only foreign national employed by the NGO in Gaza. After enduring three challenging weeks in a United Nations Development Programme bunker, Onyeke successfully crossed the Rafah border from Gaza into Egypt on November 1st. By November 3rd, he was reunited with his family in Abuja.
In addition to expressing gratitude to the Nigerian government, Mercy Corps highlighted the need for a humanitarian corridor to facilitate aid delivery to Gaza and ensure the safe passage of foreign nationals from the region. The organization emphasized the importance of ending the ongoing crises in Palestine and Israel to enable communities to rebuild and humanitarian efforts to continue effectively.
