Protests Turn Violent in Plateau State as Women Burn Down Traditional Ruler’s Residence

Protests erupted in Plateau State, Nigeria, as a result of the recent killings in several communities, leading to the burning down of the residence of the District Head of Bokkos town, Michal Monday Adanchi. Bokkos town, located in Bokkos Local Government Area, was one of the areas affected by the violent attacks.

The district head’s house was reportedly set ablaze around 12:30 on Friday, as irate women took to the streets to express their anger over the arrest of some community members allegedly involved in the killings.

According to an eyewitness account, the protests began at a police station where the women voiced their frustrations over the arrests. Subsequently, they marched to the residence of the traditional ruler, accusing him of betrayal before setting his house on fire.

The situation escalated, prompting the deployment of soldiers to disperse the protesting women and restore order.

Confirming the events, the state police command disclosed the arrest of eight individuals in connection with the attacks. Reports indicate that the violence, which occurred between December 24 and 26 across approximately 23 villages, resulted in over 200 fatalities, numerous injuries, and the destruction of hundreds of homes.
