The former chairman of the Imo State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, HRH Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri, was reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen on Saturday morning. The incident occurred at the front gate of his compound in Orodo, Mbaitoli Council Area of Imo State, at approximately 08:30. Solomon Ohiri, the traditional ruler’s brother and a United States-based businessman, was also kidnapped in the same incident, as reported by Vanguard.

According to an eyewitness, the abduction took place as the Ohiri brothers returned home after visiting friends as part of their Christmas celebrations. Upon their arrival at the compound, they parked their vehicle and were engaged in a final discussion before parting ways. At that moment, a Highlander vehicle carrying armed gunmen intercepted them, firing shots indiscriminately. The assailants then forcibly took both men into their vehicle and drove off in the direction of Njaba to Orlu road.

However, another eyewitness, as reported by Vanguard, stated that Solomon Ohiri managed to struggle and escape from the kidnappers during the ordeal.

The abduction of Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri, a prominent traditional ruler in Imo State, has sparked concern and raised questions about the security situation in the area. The incident highlights the vulnerability of individuals, even those in prominent positions, to criminal activities such as kidnapping, which has been a recurring issue in parts of Nigeria.

The news of the abduction has prompted calls for swift action from security agencies to ensure the safe return of the traditional ruler and his brother. It also underscores the need for improved security measures to protect the lives and property of citizens, particularly during festive periods when criminal activities tend to increase.
