President Bola Tinubu has authorized the disbursement of N12 billion to settle outstanding payments owed to Nigeria’s national sports teams, including the Super Eagles. This move, announced via the official handle of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Center, aims to address long-standing financial commitments and ensure the teams’ financial stability.

The allocation covers a range of expenses, notably the clearance of 15 months’ worth of salaries for senior national team coaches. Additionally, it encompasses the settlement of outstanding allowances and commitments owed to the senior national teams, the women’s teams, and the Under-20 national team.

The decision comes at a crucial time as the Super Eagles of Nigeria gear up for their participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to commence later this month. This funding injection is expected to provide much-needed support to the teams, enabling them to focus on their preparations and performance in the tournament.

This significant financial commitment by President Bola Tinubu reflects a strong dedication to the development and success of Nigerian sports. By addressing the backlog of payments and ensuring the financial well-being of the national teams, the administration aims to bolster the country’s sporting prowess and elevate its standing on the international stage.
