Minister Betta Edu Faces EFCC Probe Over Alleged N585 Million Scandal

The recently suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, is expected to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, January 9th, following her suspension over an alleged N585 million cash transfer scandal.

President Bola Tinubu suspended Edu on Monday morning pending the conclusion of an investigation into the alleged financial misconduct. This move comes as part of the government’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in public office.

In a separate development, Edu’s predecessor, Sadiya Farouq, is also under investigation by the EFCC. She was questioned on Monday regarding a distinct allegation of N37.1 billion laundering that dates back to her tenure under former President Buhari.

As of Monday evening, around 6 pm, Farouq was reported to still be at the EFCC headquarters, where she is expected to provide further information related to the ongoing investigation.
