Federal Government Initiates Cash Transfer Program for 283,003 Beneficiaries in Lagos

The Federal Government has initiated training for the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer facilitators in Lagos State, aiming to enroll 283,003 beneficiaries in the program. Dr. Michael Ajuluchuku, the National Programme Manager of the National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) in Abuja, expressed that this initiative would offer financial relief to vulnerable citizens in the state. The Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer program, under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, intends to provide a cash transfer of N25,000 for three months to 15 million Nigerian households.
Ajuluchuku emphasized the importance of equipping facilitators with the necessary skills for the smooth enrollment of beneficiaries. He urged them to ensure a speedy enrollment process to meet the program’s objectives. Representing Ajuluchuku, Hajia Zanaib Usman emphasized that the program is non-partisan and non-political, targeting only Nigerians, particularly focusing on rural and urban poor and vulnerable households.
The selection process for beneficiaries involves two main implementing units: the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office, responsible for generating data of the poor and vulnerable, and the National Cash Transfer Office, which delivers the intervention. Ajuluchuku stated that President Tinubu chose to sustain and expand the program due to its positive impact on Nigerians, increasing the number of beneficiaries from two million to 15 million.
In response, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, the Commissioner of Lagos State Wealth Creation, commended the Federal Government’s commitment through the NCTO and acknowledged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s support for the program. He highlighted the program’s role in providing financial support to households amidst economic challenges.
Dr. Abiodun Onayele, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, announced the commencement of cash transfers to beneficiaries under the Renewed Hope Cash Transfer Programme. He emphasized the priority given to female adult households and the need for facilitators to be enrolled in the program.
Lola Orimogunje, the Programme Manager of Conditional Cash Transfer in Lagos State, urged beneficiaries to provide their National Identification Numbers (NIN) during enrollment to meet the eligibility criteria for opening bank accounts, as mandated by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Muhammed Adams, an Enrolment Officer from the National Cash Transfer Office in Abuja, explained the enrollment process to facilitators and stressed the importance of their active participation in the training.
