Governor Yahaya Bello Orders Arrest of Perpetrators in National Assembly Members’ Harassment Incident

Following an incident of harassment involving members of the National Assembly during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, six individuals have been arrested on the governor’s orders. Governor Bello has subsequently imposed a ban on unauthorized persons from accessing the government house and called for the immediate prosecution of the perpetrators.

The lawmakers from Kogi State, representing both the Senate and House of Representatives, had visited Governor Bello to extend their congratulations on the peaceful and credible conduct of the November 11 Governorship election. They also pledged their unwavering loyalty to the governor and the incoming administration.

However, shortly after the meeting, Governor Bello was informed of the harassment of some lawmakers as they were leaving the government house. In response, he swiftly ordered the arrest of those involved and directed security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that the culprits face the full consequences of their actions.

In a directive to the heads of security agencies, Governor Bello expressed his strong disapproval of the incident, stating, “I will NEVER condone act of hooliganism and indiscipline.” He emphasized the importance of upholding law and order and ensuring that such acts are dealt with decisively.

The members of the National Assembly who were part of the visit included Senators Jibrin Isah Echocho and Sunday Karimi, as well as several members of the House of Representatives. The governor’s swift action underscores his commitment to maintaining a peaceful and orderly environment in the state.
