Nigerian Police Sound Alarm Over ‘No Gree for Anybody’ Slogan as Potential Crisis Trigger

The Nigerian Police Force has issued a plea to young Nigerians, urging them to refrain from using the popular catchphrase “no gree for anybody.” This phrase, which has gained traction on social media and inspired numerous memes, is seen as a symbol of standing firm in one’s beliefs and rights, resisting intimidation and pressure. However, according to police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the authorities have received intelligence suggesting that the slogan has the potential to incite revolutionary activities in the country.
During a press briefing, Adejobi highlighted the concerns surrounding the slogan, stating that it is being promoted by a revolutionary group and could lead to unrest and instability if not addressed. Despite its seemingly innocuous nature, the police view “no gree for anybody” as a dangerous slogan with the capacity to spark widespread crisis.
Adejobi went on to emphasize the need for caution in the use of such slogans, particularly in the current security climate. While acknowledging the right to free expression, he stressed the importance of responsible communication, especially when it comes to messages that could be perceived as incendiary or provocative.
The plea from the Nigerian Police Force comes at a time of heightened tensions and security challenges in the country. As social media continues to play a significant role in shaping public discourse, authorities are keen to prevent the spread of messages that could exacerbate existing tensions or incite unrest.
