APC Applauds Supreme Court’s Verdicts on Governorship Elections, Hails Judiciary’s Independence

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its satisfaction with the recent Supreme Court rulings on the 2023 governorship elections in eight states, citing them as a testament to the strength and independence of the Nigerian judiciary. Mr. Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, issued a statement in Abuja on Friday, welcoming the apex court’s decisions.

The Supreme Court upheld the election of APC governorship candidates in Lagos, Ebonyi, and Cross River States. However, the appeals for Kano, Zamfara, Bauchi, Plateau, and Abia states were decided in favor of other political parties and their candidates. Morka emphasized that while the decisions may provoke mixed reactions, they are final and binding on all parties involved in the legal disputes.

According to Morka, the Supreme Court’s decisions serve as a strong affirmation of the judiciary’s authority, vibrancy, and independence. The APC has consistently advocated for the judiciary to fulfill its crucial role in resolving disputes, including those related to elections.

Morka also criticized opposition politicians, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for allegedly disparaging the judiciary following unfavorable judgments from lower courts. He called on the PDP to issue an unequivocal apology to the courts for what he described as reckless and unwarranted attacks.

The APC spokesperson congratulated the winners of the upheld elections, specifically Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Bassey Otu of Cross River, wishing them success in their continued service to their states and the country. He urged everyone to remain calm and maintain peace in the interest of all.
