Tinubu Calls for Comprehensive Education and Security Reforms to Drive Nigeria’s Progress
President Bola Tinubu has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s potential to overcome poverty, emphasizing the need for unity and collective vision as key steps towards national development. He made these remarks during a meeting with governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja.
President Tinubu urged the APC governors to prioritize policies that benefit all Nigerians and to foster national unity above political interests. He stressed the importance of inclusivity, ownership, and sustainability in the implementation of development policies to ensure their effectiveness.
The President highlighted Nigeria’s abundant human, natural, and material resources, stating that the country should not be struggling with infrastructure deficiencies, inadequate education, and healthcare facilities. He called for a re-engineering of the country’s financial system to enhance inclusivity, effectiveness, and efficiency.
In addressing the education sector, President Tinubu urged the governors to enhance the school-feeding programme to ensure comprehensive coverage across all states, with a focus on getting all children into school. He emphasized the need to measure success not just in numbers but in the actual return of children to classrooms.
On security, the President discussed plans to deploy forest guards equipped with modern technology and weapons to strengthen security in the country. He also mentioned initiatives to secure the solid minerals and marine economic sectors, including the establishment of marine police and reserves for minerals like gold to bolster the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
In response, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, thanked President Tinubu for his leadership and support to the states, pledging continued support as ambassadors of the APC.
