APC Plans Direct Primaries for Edo Governorship Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced its intention to conduct direct primaries to select its candidate for the forthcoming Edo governorship election scheduled for September 21.

Duro Meseko, the APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, revealed this decision following a consultative meeting with Edo stakeholders at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. He emphasized the need for unity among the stakeholders to streamline the number of aspirants vying for the governorship position.

Meseko urged all aspirants to adhere to the party’s rules and regulations and advised them to seek internal party dispute resolution mechanisms instead of resorting to legal action. He also stressed the importance of members fulfilling their financial obligations to the party as outlined in its Constitution.

The APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) further resolved to conduct e-registration for new members after the primaries to ensure a smooth process. The stakeholders were urged to prioritize unity within the party ranks to present a cohesive front in the election.

Former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole, expressed confidence in the party’s ability to reclaim the state in the upcoming election. He emphasized the significance of democracy based on popular participation, acknowledging its challenges while highlighting its effectiveness in building consensus and resolving conflicts.

Oshiomole praised the efforts of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC National Chairman, in leading the party and expressed optimism that the party’s unity would lead to victory in Edo.

In his remarks, Ganduje outlined the party’s strategic focus on strengthening internal democracy and increasing its presence across the country. He stressed the importance of understanding the party’s ideology, rules, and regulations, advocating for a guided democracy approach to limit unnecessary contests and foster transparency.
