Oyo State Governor Updates on Ibadan Explosion, Confirms Involvement of Foreign Mining Company Behind Ibadan Explosion

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) documents belonging to a mining company responsible for Tuesday’s explosion in Ibadan revealed the involvement of foreign individuals as owners. The governor made this revelation during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.
Governor Makinde also provided an update on the casualties, stating that the death toll from the explosion had risen to three, with one additional victim succumbing to injuries in the hospital on Wednesday. He noted that efforts to rescue survivors were ongoing, with one individual being successfully recovered alive from the rubble. Additionally, he mentioned that out of the 77 people hospitalized, 60 had been discharged.
Regarding the company involved in the explosion, Governor Makinde stated that preliminary investigations had uncovered the presence of foreign names in the CAC documents associated with the company. However, he emphasized that it was still early in the investigation process and that further inquiries were necessary to establish the full details.
The governor clarified that the explosion was not linked to any terrorist activity but rather attributed it to illegal mining operations. He asserted that individuals involved in unauthorized mining activities had stored explosives in a residential area, leading to the tragic incident.
